LTI Integration in Canvas

What is LTI Integration?

LTI is an abbreviation for Learning Tools Interoperability, which allows services like Pearson and Examity to integrate with Canvas as single-sign-on tools. LTI provides a standard way to integrate learning tools into a Learning Management System (LMS) and
pass user and grade data back and forth between the learning tool and the LMS, Canvas.

Unlike Blackboard, Canvas seamlessly integrates with LTI's and we encourage the use of LTI's into your course. Grades will transfer into Canvas from the third-party site (i.e. Pearson or McGraw-Hill) and the integration enables students to see grades that are pulled from multiple platforms in their Canvas Gradebook. Canvas has many LTI's that can integrate with your course to create a robust and engaging experience for students.

One fantastic feature of the Canvas LTI integration is how seamlessly Zoom integrates into your Canvas online class. Find out more about the Zoom integration below.

Where to start?

If you want to integrate an app in your Canvas course, you will need to add it to your course navigation so that both you and students can access the feature. Some apps have already been configured for use in Temple courses and only need to be pulled up from the
list of available features from the Navigation tab in your course Settings to be added to your course navigation (see more about that here). Some popular integrations that are already ready to be used in your course include:

  • Zoom
  • Pearson MyLab and Mastering
  • MH Connect
  • ProctorU
  • Google Apps
  • Office 365 Apps
  • Roll Call Attendance
  • VoiceThread

If the app you wish to use has not yet been configured for use in Canvas navigation, the process is a little different and will require you to find and install the app first.

Zoom LTI Integration

Zoom is configured for use within your Canvas course and only needs to be added to your navigation to be utilized to host your online classes.

Integrate Pearson MyLab & Mastering:

Pearson's LMS integration with Canvas gives instructors and students streamlined access to MyLab. With single sign-on from your Canvas course, students have easy access to MyLab Math, including assignments, study plan, eText and results.

Integrate MH Connect

McGraw-Hill's Connect program integrates directly with Canvas, allowing single sign-on access directly from your course. Assignments can be imported into Canvas once the course has been synced to Connect.
