Navigating Canvas

What is Canvas?

Canvas is a Learning Management System (LMS) used to organize content for educational purposes. Temple University classes can utilize a Canvas classroom to provide materials and guidance to students in a face-to-face class or to fully house their entire online course. Canvas course shells can also be created for personal or administrative use.

You can access your Temple Canvas site by going to https://templeu.instructure.com or by locating the Canvas link from the left-hand side of the TUPortal under TU Applications.
Sign in with your AccessNet ID and password.

What is Global Navigation?

After logging into Canvas, you will see the Global Navigation Menu located on the far left side of every page. Default quick links are available to access frequently used Canvas features.

What is your Dashboard?

The Dashboard is the first thing you will see once logging into Canvas, to the right of your Global Navigation. The Dashboard helps you see what is happening in all your current courses. You can customize the courses and information that appears in your Dashboard by changing the dashboard view.

What is Course Navigation?

Course navigation includes frequently used features for a specific course. They will appear along the left-side of your Canvas classroom, as a way to always access specific features from wherever you are in the course. As an instructor, you have the ability to rearrange the order of the navigation panel and enable which features are visible to students and which are not.
